First Surgery Consult

Completed the surgery consult for the first of the two surgeries. I have been marked.

This first surgery will remove known cancer from my body, and give me an ileostomy bag to allow the removal-area to heal.

What is an ileostomy bag?

An ileostomy is an opening in the intestine and abdominal wall that is made during surgery. The end of the ileum (the lowest part of the small intestine) is brought through this opening to form a stoma, usually on the lower right side of the abdomen. 1

Along with lots of questions, blood work, explanations on exactly what is going to happen, and instructions on prepping for the procedure, I was marked for the possible bag location sites. The button below is hiding my belly in case you don’t want to see it. The pic that will show if you click below shows the four possible sites. Thankfully, they didn’t have to tattoo the spots.

(Reminder: me, who does not like needles, has been tattooed twice now because of this cancer; I might as well bite the bullet and get a real tat (and a biker jacket too :-))
